Aged AB Post
So this publish has been sitting in the content box for months, therefore I’m finally going to release it now. I don’t know precisely why it’s been sitting there. Maybe because the photographs weren’t ready. The photos still aren’t. That will be the next post ;
School is keeping us busy!
Anime Boston has been pretty interesting this year. On a single hand, it was totally awesome as it usually is. They repaired all the dumb stuff that occurred last year with the long traces, etcetc. I actually did almost everything I want to to do and didn’t think that I wasted time hanging out at any point. I went to some awesome panels, traded lots of products at the swap meet, and also got some good stuff in the musician alley and dealer’s area.
However… and maybe someone can easily back me up on this… the air about AB in 2010 was… strange. It’s difficult to identify. It just had a different experiencing. Maybe it’s because more high schoolers and fewer older people are attending? I somewhat hope that isn’t the case… it’s good to see so many people getting into anime, but I hope the more mature crowd doesn’t feel shunned out of this kind of event. I also desire they don’t target con activites increasingly more at highschool-aged people in particular… it is nice to have a balance!
And it is it me, or had been there so much less cosplay and much more goth/punk/lolita wear? That stuff is neat, too, I just felt such as I wasn’t seeing the particular cosplay.
It’s sort of strange exactly how anime and cosplay trends as well as popularity fluctuate so rapidly… I guess as more people end up in anime, they move on to the following big thing, and skip over the last ones. A lot of people couldn’t know who I was (Haruhi Suzumiya!) even after My partner and i told them. Last year, there were a lot of Haruhis around I about dropped my mind.
This year, it was a bit difficult to pick out one or two key cosplay trends. I noticed an uncommonly high level of Vocaloid cosplay, and lots of Pokemon (especially Pikachu girls in short skirts…). I observed some really great cosplay throughout the minus, and tried to take numerous photos as I could.
I also had a conversation with my boyfriend wherein he mentioned an interesting point… maybe many people are cosplaying, and I just can’t explain to because I’m unfamiliar with the characters? Or because the characters use fairly normal clothes, possess normal hair, or are generally gothic/lolita/punk and I think that’s just how these people dress? This could be true I assume. I don’t really know if that makes up about the difference.
Everyone I spoke to who attended the con agreed that there was obviously a strange aura about it this year. However, I still had tons of fun… I hope you do, too!
