More Costumes; More Blade Changes
As is typical, the idea and process for creating the Suigintou sword has changed yet again.
I spent hours with my dad (definitely a two-person job) creating a blade out of memory foam to cover in plastic, and yes it was just not working out. We got stuck trying to make the tough angles in the blade, and worried how the plastic would likely adhere if we couldn’t obtain the foam perfectly smooth. It absolutely was all blowing up and we have been at a standstill for a while.
We finally came the conclusion which i should just make the blade beyond wood/MDF and deal with the consequences must there be any. That way, the sword would appear the way I wanted it for you to. I will take it to Cartoons Boston and hope no person thinks it’s dangerous (it will definitely not be). If they do, I’ll simply leave it at security, figure it out at the end of the day, and carry on without it. But at least I will possess a sword the way I want it to look for other cons and photo shoots. That seemed more valuable, in the end, than a particular disadvantages potential rules, particularly when That’s not me being entered in any formal competitive events.
In the realm of more outfits… MORE COSTUMES. I will be creating myself another costume regarding Anime Boston to wear towards the formal ball, which will be Gwendolyn’s soccer ball gown from Odin Sphere. I bought each of the fabric for it this weekend for really excited about it.
Also i bought fabric for my pal Mike’s costume, who will be going to Abs as Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke. It’s quite a simple costume, which are some of the most fun to do, because every detail is important. I got great textile for the hood and burlap to produce him some shoe handles. He’s (supposedly) taking care of his individual sword and (maybe) bend.
I’ll be working on 4 costumes – the two mentioned above, Suigintou, and also the Urd commission – over the the following month leading up to AB. Spring break is certainly my friend this year (first 7 days of march). I’ll be publishing all kinds of photos over the returning weeks, including of sword construction.
This is the fun element!
